Editorial – Tibetan Music Awards 2007

Music kicking the Tibetan world!

Here we are again with another edition of the Tibetan Music Awards. Like in the previous years, the work started a few months back with the public voting for their favourite artistes in different categories.

We received great response to our efforts. Music seems to be kicking the Tibetan world! The voters have selected well-deserved winners.

Like any other year, the Tibetan music world had its own share of joy and sadness. One sad note is the passing away of Sholkhang Sonam Dhargay. He had dedicated his life to Tibetan music and was a bridge between the old and the new Tibet. We pay homage to this great legend.

On the brighter side, Nawang Khechog, one of the foremost Tibetan musicians, narrowly escaped death in February this year. We are very happy to honour him with a "Special Recognition" for his contributions in bringing Tibetan music into the international music scene.

I am very thankful for Silk Road Communications for being the co-sponsor of this event. As a result of their great belief and love for music, they can understand the importance of even a small event like the Tibetan Music Awards.

I also would like to thank Diane Drysdale and Linda Ollaik from Australia for their support, and our graphics designer Lobsang Jampa and all the team members for putting in all their time and energy that has made this event as beautiful as it has been. Most of all, I thank all the Tibetan musicians and singers for their cooperation and participation.

Kyipo tang!
