Losar concert in Kathmandu
On Saturday, 12 February 2005, the 4th day of Losar (Tibetan New Year), the Himalayan Institute of Tibetan Arts (HITA) organised a concert at Shechen Monastery in Boudhanath, Nepal. Over 6,000 people attended the free show. The show was also attended by prominent guests including the French Ambassador of Nepal, Ven. Matteiu Riccard, Ani Choeyang Dolma, representatives from the United States Educational Foundation in Nepal (USEF-N), representatives from the French School in Nepal, students from Lincoln School, and the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's office in Nepal. The concert was the first of its kind in Nepal. The numerous artistes from HITA performed a collection of traditional Tibetan songs and dances. The concert started with a welcome speech and a Dekar (Tibetan jester) performance by Tenzin Dhundup.
The show remained dominated by traditional scores. Sonam Tsering's Gar Lu received a special ovation from the audience. Some other artistes danced to fast number of Dranyen Shapdro (tap dance to a fast Tibetan lute). The Concert ended with all the musicians together on stage making Lhapso, a ceremony hailing victory to the gods, shouting "ki ki so so lha gya lo". Tenzin Dhundup thanked the audience for their support. |
