Grammy nominee Geshe Ngawang speaks

Geshe Ngawang Tashi, popularly known as Lama Tashi, showing his Grammy Awards nominee medal in his hotel room after he returned from the 48th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on 8 February. He was nominated in the Traditional World Music category for his album “Tibetan Master Chants”.

The winner for the category was “In the Heart of the Moon”, by Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabate, from Mali, a republic situated in West Africa.

Lama Tashi, 38, earned his Geshe degree (Doctorate in Buddhist philosophy) from Drepung Loseling monastery, Mundgod, South India in 2004, after studying in the monastery for 21 years. He is currently serving as the Principal of the Institute of Himalayan Studies at Dahong in Arunachal Pradesh. He has interest in playing keyboard.
