Tibetan King of pop performs in Mcleod GanjMCLEOD GANJ, India, 17 May 2006 Tsering Gyurmey, whose successful music career that had earned him the nickname "Tibetan King of pop", refreshed the mood of an other wise lousy day in Mcleod Ganj with some of his hit numbers. Gyurmey has travelled from Nepal to perform in the concert organised to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the radio Voice of Tibet. It was his third performance in concert in Mcleod Ganj. Tenzin Gyalpo, a.k.a. Michael, who has travelled from Sikkim, was another attraction at the concert. He presented his famous Kargil song in a duet with Tsering Gyurmey. Mocking the quietness and the stillness of the Mcleod Ganj audience, Michael yelled, "I like the Mcleod Ganj audience very much. You are very quiet." Mcleod’s local bands JJI Exile Brothers, Peace Band, R 59, and two groups from TIPA and a few other solo artistes — Kharag Penpa, Ngawang Thupten and Tenzin Thokmey took part in the concert. Over one thousand people have gathered for the show, held at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts. Tibetan government officials, including the Minister for Information and International Relations, Chief Justice, Members of the parliament of the Tibetan government-in-exile, were among the audience. Interacting with musictibet.com, Gyurmey said that he is getting ready to produce his second music video. "The editing and the designing of the music video are all done. I am hoping to bring the new album out in a few weeks," he said. Gyurmey, who won the Best Male Singer award in the Tibetan Music Awards 2005, produced his best-selling album of all-time of Tibetan music — Tsawai Lama — in 1996. He has since remained in the forefront of the Tibetan music scene in exile. |
