Tenzin Gyalpo (Michael) retiring into music
MCLEOD GANJ, India, 20 September 2006 Retiring after 21 years of service in the Tibetan unit of the Indian army, Tenzin Gyalpo, popularly known as Michael, is slated to launch his own musical and entertainment company: Michael Music Mansion, to dedicate his full attention towards music and entertainment. The company will kick off with the launch of his web site: michaelmusicmansion.com/ and the release of a music video: Tsewae Bodjong, shot with six of his hit songs, in mid October. Denpae Tsesem — a romantic album containing eight songs will be released in December. The album will have Nyimdol from Kathmandu doing two duets with him. His first original song in 2000 titled: Kargil, tells of the bravery with which the Tibetan soldiers fought the Kargil war that India won against Pakistan in 1999. It was an instant hit, which reassured Michael of his gifted talent in singing. The success reinvigorated Michael to take singing more seriously than handling a gun. This further pushed him to bring out his first album in 2000 titled: Lhaksam (Dedication). It was in collaboration with Dorjee Tsering, who now lives in New York. His first single album, Semchang, was released in 2003. In 2005 he launched Denso, which was in collaboration with Tsering Gyurmey. In January 2006 his fifth album Lagya was released during the Kalachakra teachings in Amaravati. Michael is also known for comedy shows. He successfully produced a comedy album: Goedroe tam in 2004.
