Losar mega show in Delhi

Concert opens Losar in Delhi

DELHI, India, 19 February 2007 — Traditional and contemporary Tibetan songs and music set off Losar, the new Tibetan 2134 Fire Pig year, for the Tibetans in Majnu ka Tilla in Delhi.

The concert was organised by Toronto, Canada, based Sonam Entertainment, which has planned three concerts during Losar. The idea of the concert was not only entertainment, but the funds raised from the event will be donated to help stay the Tibetan camp at Majnu ka Tilla, which was intended to be demolished by the Government of India in a project for cleaning the banks of Yamuna river.

Lights and thunder from the fireworks opened the concert, which was attended by around 1,500 people. The concert highlighted the revival of the Yak Band, a Dekar (Tibetan jester) performance by Chondhen, and other 10 young artistes — Pemsi, Thokmey, Kharag Penpa, Tenzin Silnon, Nyimdol and others — performing Tibetan, English and Nepalese pop songs.

The group will present two more concerts: in Mcleod Ganj on the 22nd and at Dekiling Tibetan settlement on the 24th.
