Gonpo Entertainment did it again!

BYLAKUPPE, India, 20 February 2007 — It was Losar, the Tibetan New Year, and in the air one could feel an anticipation for something new and exciting in this year’s celebrations. Gonpo Entertainment did not disappoint!

This year’s its annual Losar concert took on a completely new form, which included an inter college cultural and talent competition, a fashion show, comedy presentations and songs and dances from exile Tibet’s most celebrated artistes.

Tibetan students attending Chennai, Bangalore and Mysore colleges participated in the competition. The three teams presented four items each in a group song, traditional dance, a talent round and a Bollywood item. Their spectacular performances kept the members of the audience of all ages on the edges of their seats.

The Chennai college student troupe took first prize of 75 thousand rupees, but not without having to do their utmost to stay ahead of the closely pursuing Bangalore College troupe, who bagged the second prize of 25 thousand and the Mysore College troupe, which was also presented with 25 thousand rupees as an honorarium award.

Kelsang Tsomo, a Bangalore based fashion designer and image consultant, choreographed and presented her contemporary Tibetan fashion line with the help of some 20 young talented Tibetan college students of both sexes. The crowd’s response was enthusiastic and many wanted to know when the collection would be available for the general public.

In a guest appearance Miss Tibet 2006, Tsering Chungtak walked the ramp to a roaring welcome from the crowd. She spoke of her experiences as a Miss Tibet and especially mentioned her participation in the Miss Earth beauty pageant in the Philippines last November.

Pa Tsering, the most popular Tibetan comedian in the Tibetan Diaspora kept the crowd laughing with his newest jokes.

Other artistes, including Ugen Lhundup and Sonam Gonpo of Thuk jey katrin fame, regaled the crowd with some of their hit songs. Norbu Sky (from Ooty) performed a Tibetan drinking song and the Bylakuppe Lhamo (Opera) troupe came on stage to offer an auspicious Namthar (Tibetan Opera song).

Artistes from the Karnataka Cultural Department brought some local flavour to the show by performing some Karnatic cultural items.

Phurbu T. Namgyal, the current musical heartthrob, delighted the audience with his hit songs including a couple of new numbers from his latest album Gapoe tam (Love story).
