Tenzin Gyalpo

Michael was born in Sikkim, Gangtok, India in 1967. He is an alumnus of SFF School, Herbertpur and Central School for Tibetans, Mussoorie. He obtained his BA degree with English Honours from Punjab University, Chandigarh.

He joined the Tibetan army — Establishment no. 22, a unit in the Indian army, in 1985. Within the army he started a completely new journey — plunging into the world of music, mimicry and comedy acts. It all happened after he joined the army band — Snow Lion Band, in 1987.

After his hit song "Kargil" with Dorjee Tsering in the album Lhaksam, Michael became an established name as a Tibetan artiste.

In his career as a singer and a comedian he has performed in many festivals. Most noted performances were before His Holiness the Dalai Lama (2002) and Prince Charles (2003).

His album Semchang got nominated for the Best Fusion Album in the first Tibetan Music Awards in 2003 in Dharamsala, India.
